The Barely There Top

The Barely There Top is a close-fitting cashmere top knitted in an exceptionally fine yarn for a light, barely-there feel against the skin.

Designed as a simple layer to wear on its own or underneath shirts, sweaters and jackets, it has delicate i-cord straps, a clean straight neckline and a minimal silhouette. The top is reversible, with a slightly narrower front and wider back, so you can wear it either way depending on the fit you prefer.

The Barely There Top is knitted according to your own measurements for a close, body-hugging fit.

The pattern is knitted according to your own measurements, but sizes are indicated throughout the pattern as a reference.

Sizes correspond to your usual top size:

The Barely There Top is designed to fit closely to the body. To achieve the same fit as shown, we recommend gently stretching the knitted fabric when taking your measurements, as the cashmere will relax and give with repeated wear.

Making a gauge swatch is particularly important for this pattern, as even a small difference in gauge can have a noticeable effect on the finished fit.

Gauge

30 sts x 44 rows = 10 x 10 cm in stockinette stitch on 3 mm needles.

Construction

The Barely There Top is knitted seamlessly from the top down.

First, the upper folded edge is worked, followed by the two i-cord straps. These are joined to form the front piece, which is shaped with increases towards the underarms.

The back is worked in the same way, but slightly wider. Front and back are then joined, and the body is knitted in the round to your desired length before being finished with a folded lower edge.

The top is reversible, allowing the narrower side to be worn as either the front or the back.
