Construction of The Square Swimsuit

The Square Swimsuit is knitted from the top down.

First, the upper folded hem is worked, and directly from this the front piece is knitted. On each side of the front piece, increases are made so the front slopes down toward the armholes. From the middle of the armhole area, the increases continue so that the back slopes less steeply than the front.

The front and back are knitted back and forth until they are connected and the swimsuit has become wide enough to reach around the entire torso section.

The torso section is then knitted in the round on circular needles.

Finally, the lower front piece is knitted separately, followed by the lower back piece, and the two parts are joined together using Kitchener Stitch.

At the end, straps are picked up on each side of the folded hem. These are knitted long enough to reach the low back of The Square Swimsuit, where they are finally sewn in place.
